Crane Hire Operations Under Victoria’s COVID 19 Restrictions

With the COVID-19 Stage 4 restrictions in the Melbourne metro area having been effective since 11:59pm Wednesday, 5 August and all other places in Victoria under stage 3 restrictions. We thought it was important to update our clients about how this has impacted the Crane Hire Industry.

Can I hire a crane during stage 4 Coronavirus Restrictions?

The mobile Crane Hire Sector falls under the Stage 4 Industries Distribution List within the RENTAL HIRING SECTOR which is permitted to operate with a COVID Safe Plan. As crane hire companies are “Supplying a Permitted Service or Industry”; which Construction still falls under, cranes and crews are still allowed to visit multiple job sites within the 6-week lock-down.

However, crane hire companies may only provide crane hire services to clients in permitted industries such as construction and may be found in violation of current restrictions if the work or project undertaken is considered to be ‘non-essential’.

Are Premier Cranes Operating During Stage 4 Lockdown?

Premier is still lifting and OPEN for business to support our construction clients in Melbourne and wider Victoria. However, the new restrictions have altered the way Premier plans and delivers our lifting services. We are having to work in unique and very different ways to ultimately deliver for all our clients and their projects safely within our COVID safe plan. 

How Have Stage 4 Restrictions Altered Crane Hire Operations?

To comply with the restrictions we have had to limit the number of employees at our depots to essential staff only and have required other personnel to begin/continue working from home.

When sending out cranes and crew, we now have to notify the contractor of the number of personnel accompanying the crane so they can ensure they are compliant with the new limits of workers onsite.

And of course, we are now required to issue permits to our employees and stay compliant with our COVID safe plan.
